Sunshine Orchard
A children's home that caters for the needs of children who are abandoned, orphaned or who are just simply impoverished, and in need. The home serves a large group of children who are refugees from the Karen state in Burma.
Many of these children have fled the persecution of the Burmese government, and are now in the care of the staff at Sunshine Orchard. One of these babies is "Kukupaw" (photo), who has become part of our lives. We are trying to adopt her, but this is an almost impossible task, as she was born in the jungles of Burma and has no papers! Her mother died shortly after she was born, and her father unable to take care of her, sent her to Sunshine Orchard. He has given us guardianship over her until she is 18 years old! We have now named her Abigail and she has become part of our family.
Sunshine Orchard
Sunshine Orchard is an incredible place! Owned and run by the Adams family. Nestled on the banks of the Moei River, which forms the border between Thailand and Burma, lies this haven for refugee and abandoned children. Sunshine Orchard not only caters for shelter and food for the over two-hundred students, but it offers an opportunity for education as well.
Education
The school now caters for children up to grade 10, offering the usual academic classes. However education does not stop there. The children are taught basic skills such as sewing, weaving, building, health and medical missionary work. All staff are volunteers. They not only provide the necessary education but are "Mother's and Father's" to most of the children there. All education is Christ centered, and the children are introduced to Christianity not only in the classes but through the lives of all the staff.
Medical
As the children's home lies on the border, the location is prone to many diseases. Malaria and Dengue fever are the two most common symptoms. The living conditions of the many children are poor and there is a great need for better housing and dormitories, but funding is always a huge problem! Besides caring for the fatal dieases, the Steck family (who are full time missionaries there), have a home that doubles up as a clinic. Brenda Steck (a nurse) is kept very busy with cuts and bruises, stomach aches, headaches, colds and flues etc.
Satellite Schools
Satellite schools are being started across the border in Burma. Many students have expressed a longing and desire to return home to their villages to teach people basic health and hygiene principles. But most of all, to share the love of Jesus with these people. As you visit their web site, you will notice that for security reasons the full names of people and villages have been left out. This work is not easy, and these students risk their lives in order to educate their own people. In order to tell them about Jesus! In order to share His love!
Needs
We encourage you to visit their "Needs" web page! If the Lord is impressing upon your mind to help in some way or other, please prayerfully go through the many needs that they have. The greatest need being workers! Perhaps the Lord is calling YOU to become personally involved in the lives of these dear children. No matter your age or experience we are all able to help!
“The harvest is plenty
but the workers are few,
the reason could be
that the worker is you.
So, test all your dreams,
your goals and ambitions,
do you really believe
the gospel is true?”
